Personal Update
Sometimes, you just need a bit of a break away, even from writing and blog entries, and you’ll be happy to note that while we’ve been a bit absent from the blog, we are both coming back refreshed and as keen about writing as ever! Where we last left off, I was about to embark on a trip to New Zealand to see my family. After covid-19 put restrictions on travel, I was so excited to be able to get out into the world again, and to take the first of hopefully many trips with Julia to see her kiwi relatives.
It was excellent to see everyone again, and we had a myriad of adventures including going to my little brother’s wedding, the National Aquarium in Napier (Julia’s personal favourite), the gorgeous botanical gardens in Hamilton, and a spontaneous trip to Auckland Museum. We even made it to an historical prison which (shhh) was research for an upcoming novel. It was not the most cheerful place to take your child, but it definitely offered the inspiration I had been searching for.
Ashley and I were able to meet in person for the first time in three years, and as a result we have FINALLY updated our website and social media with a joint author photo. The internet is a wondrous invention, but nothing will ever replace meeting a friend face-to-face. Covid took so much from us, and even now we are still reluctant to touch, many still hiding behind masks. I definitely understand the need to be cautious, and having a baby only makes you more aware of the risks. But, you can’t live your life in a bubble, either. Touch is so important to us humans, something covid took away. Watching my friends and family interact with Julia, I felt for the first time I was taking something back.
It’s wonderful to hear about your refreshing break and your adventures in New Zealand! ✈️ Reconnecting with loved ones and finding inspiration for your novel sounds like the perfect recharge.
